Greenburn School moved to its present location in 1989. It now shares a campus with Maxwellton Primary School and, over the years, the schools have worked hard to establish meaningful links so that the pupils of each school benefit from shared learning experiences.
Since October 1999 the schools now share the status of New Community School .
New Community School Approach
Greenburn and Maxwellton have developed a shared vision of the two schools as a community where all pupils are recognised and valued for their unique contribution. This is embodied in the school uniform with it's logo of joined hands. An extensive programme of social and functional integration has been developed and extends to the informal curriculum with joint residential activity weekends, joint ‘out of school care' and a joint Theatre Group. This community dimension of school life is beneficial for all the children , regardless of which school they attend.
We are also part of the Calderglen Learning Community.
We will match the special learning needs of pupils by having in place a highly structured but dynamic and stimulating curriculum devised and delivered by an experienced and highly motivated professional team.
We will endeavour to develop in pupils:-
- A deep sense of their own personal worth
- A positive self image
- A sense of purpose
- Respect for themselves and others
- Awareness of themselves and others
- A knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live
- A sense of independence consistent with abilities
- A desire to learn and to achieve success
We strive to create a positive ethos imbued with a sense of purposeful learning within a warm, welcoming, caring, dynamic environment.
A joint breakfast club is run five mornings a week in school as well as an After School Club operating on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. |
